These Uncomplicated Savoury Scones pair perfectly with a pat of butter, or cream cheese and tomato relish.

Ingredients & Method

  • Savoury Scones Ingredients
  • 425g plain flour
  • 2 tablespoons haochi
  • 30g sugar
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 114g cold butter, diced
  • 120g frozen mixed vegetables
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • Pre heat oven to 260 degrees celcius
  • In a food processor, pulse 5 times, flour, sugar, haochi, baking powder
  • Add the cold butter and pulse until incorporated, should look like a fine breadcrumb mixture
  • Transfer to a large bowl and stir in frozen mixed vegetables
  • Whisk eggs and milk together, setting aside 2 tablespoons of the mixture
  • Add the egg and milk mixture to the dry ingredients in the bowl and mix until it comes together
  • Knead the mixture on a board until smooth and roll into a square log and cut into 8 squares about 3cm thick
  • Arrange on parchment paper lined baking tray and glaze the top of the scones with egg/milk mixture
  • Place scones into oven and reduce temperature to 220 degrees celcius and bake for 15 minutes (until golden brown)
